Why John & Makee’s Halo Season 1 Romance Was So Divisive

In theHalovideo game , Master Chief is a faceless paladin , never get rid of his helmet and largely do as an empty shield through which players get to experience an epic , natural action - packed , sci - fi adventure . While this approach is in effect for a television game , it was deemed by season 1 showrunner Steven Kane and the show ’s creative squad that it would n’t quite be as effective in the medium of boob tube . As such , a witting exploit was made to make Master Chief more of a three - dimensional fibre .

Kane is not return as showrunner for time of year 2 , with David Wiener instead taking on showrunning duties .

While this idea sure as shooting pass water sense in theory , John and Makee consumating their relationship did n’t mould for all audience . In the television game , after all , Master Chief never has any romantic interests . What ’s more , Makee was also a Covenant undercover agent , and some viewer did n’t purchase that John would be so easily duped .

Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief juxtaposed with Charlie Murphy as Make in Halo season 1

On the flip side , it ’s easy to see why a John and Makee romanticism does make some sense from a story and quality position . They both had shared visions of the Halo gang , andJohn , who had fundamentally been trained as a robot soldier , was discovering what it entail to be a human with feeling . TheHaloseason 1 finalesaw Makee apparently die , but Murphy has been reassert to retrovert in season 2 in some capacity . So far , however , Haloseason 2 trailers have provided no indication of what might be to come for the factious eccentric .

Haloseason 2 premieres on Paramount Plus on February 8 .
