Victoria Pedretti

Screen Rant : What speak to you most aboutPonyboi ?

Victoria Pedretti : I was activated to do a Mob story . I was obsess with the Godfather movies as a fry , which is a unlike worldly concern , for sure . But I love New Jersey so much . Then the story , and then the characters , and then River ! There was so much to fall in honey with .

River is not only your scene partner in this but also a producer and author . How did you feel their involvement elevated the experience ?

Indya Moore

Screen Rant : Ponyboihas a fascinating premise , but what support out to you most when you first scan the screenplay ?

Indya Moore : One of the things that really connected me to Ponyboi was that Ponyboi ’s desire to be loved was so powerful , so strong , and so necessary that they were vulnerable to mass who wanted to take reward of them , and then hurt other people . I think sometimes , when you ’re in a place where you ’ve been so deprive of love , you will take it anywhere you could get it — even if it ’s not really have it away , and it just feels like it . You want to state yourself it is because really , really require it .

That is what I assemble from Ponyboi , and that is what I ’ve experienced so much of in my life and have had to heal out of . I ’ve had to heal out of that use and that harm and that round . I love that Ponyboi brings that tale to life , and also that it ’s so clearly an experience that trans and gynandromorph citizenry all share — and a lot of the great unwashed do . It ’s an experience we know we have in vulgar , but I know that a lot of a sight of other multitude know what that feels like . I hope that ’s something they can empathize with in this picture show , and I trust that something about this film can heal the part of them that just wants to be loved — and also the part of them that want multitude to be loved .

Kevin Matthew McDonald

Screen Rant : River is not only a scene partner in this but also a producer and author . How did you feel their involvement elevated the experience ?

Kevin Matthew McDonald : It was vast . Because when I first got messaged to be a part of this movie , I did n’t know a lot of the multitude involved . I did n’t know Esteban , and I did n’t know River , so I did my inquiry . I looked it up , and then I came across Ponyboi the brusk . I determine that , and I was like , " Whoa , okay . It ’s 18 minutes . They ’re run to make this into a feature article film ? " I said , " Okay , I do n’t know where I fit in , " but I know I was gon na be this big , shuddery goon guy . I was like , " I ’m very curious . "

Then I got institutionalise the book . Normally , when I get bring on , I get little bits and pieces , or stunt study here and there . I ’m just separate what to do . But I get this vast book , so I was like , " You know what ? I ’ve never read this sort of script . Let me interpret the script , top to bottom . " I read the whole thing . I ’ll be honest , I ’m more of a movie guy than a book guy , and I like to seat back and mind rather than read . But I start read , and it became almost like binge - see a show . " What ’s next ? This is crazy . And then what befall ? " I ’m just realize I ’m in this , and then it occur up to my part . I was mess up off and so thrilled to be asked to be a part of this . Initially , I come in thinking it was just some tiny one - off . Then I just keep reading more , and I was like , " Oh , I ’m in this scenery too . I ’m in this damn movie ! "

Dylan O’Brien and River Gallo looking at each other in Ponyboi

I ’ve done a hatful of TV , and I ’ve never had the joy of doing a characteristic film . This is my first one , and my first time at Sundance . It ’s a mickle of firsts for me , so it ’s very , very limited to me . Working with River , seeing River ’s idea from the forgetful to the whole script , and then to be on determine and see the sight fare to lifespan ? It ’s beyond inspirational . I told River multiple times , " You are a brilliance . A actual genius . I ’m not just saying that to congratulate you . " It ’s truly motivating and inspirational for someone to have this idea , and then go through the footmark , and we ’re here justly now . I ’m here right now , looking and talk to you , all because of someone ’s thought . It ’s incredible .
